The Holburne Museum

The arts, heritage and culture are fundamentally important aspects of every day life and finding the opportunity to embrace these three things is a must. The Holburne Museum is a fantastic cultural centre near Sydney Gardens in, Bath. They believe that the enjoyment of the arts changes peoples lives and their aim is to encourage this enjoyment by:

  • caring for, understanding, developing, displaying and interpreting our collection, building and site
  • reaching as wide a public as possible by providing a welcoming, intimate experience of the arts
  • creating exhibitions, events and educational activities of outstanding quality, impact and imagination
  • being confident, adventurous and innovative

The Holburne museum is a building steeped in history. The heart of its present day collection was formed by Sir Thomas William Holborn and the Sydney Garden grounds were famed as providing a favourite walk for Jane Austen. The comprehensive collection of antiques, art and history at Holborn has been in the making since 1882 and with the recent modern extension, looks set to continue providing culture to the masses for years to come.

With all the seasonal events over the next few months, it can be hard to find time for further exploration of Britain’s museums. But with daily free admission, it’s definitely worth a visit; with exhibitions exploring both the classic and contemporary, we’d recommend you take a look at what’s on offer over the coming months.

They also have a range of family friendly events that look fun and involved and the fantastic thing about The Holburne museum is that they’re engaging lives and the community through a shared artistic heritage and it’s a must see for anyone in the Bath area.

Further to this, their Garden Cafe is a fantastic space which has won the coveted Restaurant Bar and Design award. It’s filled with natural light, opens onto the historic Sydney Gardens and is the perfect spot in which to relax after a day at the museum.
